About iSWIM
iSWIMisanoperationalmonitoringandforecastsystemforbathingwatersqualityin
Mamaia bay (Constanta, Romania), which integrates data from numerical models'
forecasts,observations,monitoringstationsandremotesensing.
iSWIMprovideshighresolutionforecastsformarinehydrological/weatherconditions,
including surface currents, physical parameters of water quality (temperature and
salinity),wavesandwindparameters.
Targeted users
Met-oceanforecastsareavailableforusersthroughmapsandcharts.Specificfeatures
allow authorized operators to use iSWIM for emergency response procedures (e.g.
environmentalhazards,searchandrescue).Aspecific,mobile-friendlywebpageallows
freeaccesstotheiSWIMdata.
iSWIM service addresses multiple categoriesof stakeholders:local authorities in the
management of bathing water resources or recreational activities, hotel owners,
regional tourism operators, Marine Hydrographic Division, Water Management
Authorities,RomanianNavalAuthorities.
Utility and usefulness of the Copernicus Marine Service information
For the regional hydrodynamic circulation forecast, iSWIM usesmodeled data from
Copernicus Marine Services, which covers the entire Black Sea. Developed on the
MOHID Water Modeling System, iSWIM provides daily 3-day forecastsby data
downscalingfromentireBlack Sea, tothe RomanianCoast,using 3D high-resolution
models (~350m), here being accentuated the crucial role and the utility of the
CopernicusMarineServiceInformation.
Thus, iSWIM integratesCopernicus Marine remote sensing products which provides
satellite-based daily gap-free maps at 0.0625° x 0.0625° horizontal resolution.
Thedataareobtainedusinginfra-redmeasurementscollectedbysatelliteradiometers
and statisticalinterpolation,providingspecific support forWQ/coastal waterbodies’
monitoring,modelingandmanagement.
